FIRST INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS IN THE UNITED STATES
The Murray Clan Society
Added on 04 October 2024
The International Congress of Genealogical and Heraldic Sciences (ICGHS) took place on U.S. soil for the first time in its 93-year history on Tuesday 24th September to Saturday 28th September 2024. American Ancestors - a national centre for family history, heritage, and culture - and FamilySearch, the world’s largest genealogy organisation, partnered to host the 36th Congress in the historic city of Boston, Massachusetts. The theme of the Congress was “Origins, Journeys, Destinations.” To encourage an inclusive dialogue among scholars of genealogy and heraldry and to create a robust experience for attendees, heraldic artists were invited to participate in the Congress. Darin Yawn of Carrollton, Georgia, U.S.A., represented the Murrays, sharing his most excellent posters compiled over many years of study, which he also uses at clan tents, and which attendees thoroughly enjoyed.
"I have been busy preparing to represent our fine clan at the 36th International Congress of Genealogical and Heraldic Sciences next week in Boston! I will try to keep you all posted of the exciting week of lectures and displays...including my project on the Heraldry of the Murrays. I am happy to share its most recent revision .. The latest version (Rev 8) corrects a few typos and includes the addition of the Murrays of Pennyland in Caithness. This branch married the Thriepland family from whom the Murray-Thriepland Baronets of Fingask descend. Additionally, it expands the Murray of Ochtertyre branch showing better detail on the connection to the Keiths of Dunnottar and resulting Keith-Murray Baronets of Ochtertyre. Special thanks to The Murray Clan Society for their continued support in my research, specifically on this branch".
